The process
Once the painting begins, I work through it from start to finish in a focused studio flow.
Typical lead time depends on size and complexity. I will confirm your estimated completion date before work begins so you know exactly what to expect.
You will be able to choose whether your painting is delivered framed or unframed. If framed, I will guide you through the framing style so it suits both the work and the space it will live in.
When the painting is complete, I share it with you for final approval before it leaves the studio.
From start to finish, the process is designed to be clear, contained, and easy to follow, so you can simply look forward to the final piece arriving.
Every painting begins with a sense of direction, even if it’s loose at first.
Tell me what you’re drawn to. A subject, a feeling, a story, a moment you want to hold onto. If you have reference images, share them. If not, we can build it together.
It helps to think through a few gentle anchors:
• What size feels right for your space
• Whether the work will live framed or unframed
• Any colours you are naturally pulled towards or want to avoid
• Where the piece will eventually live, light, room, atmosphere
You do not need to have it perfectly defined. But the more we can see the same horizon, the more precise and resonant the final work becomes.
Once the direction feels clear, I confirm availability, timing, and price.
A deposit holds your place in the studio schedule.
From here, I often create a simple visual direction sketch or compositional study. Not a finished version, but an early glimpse of how the idea might begin to take shape. This is where we make sure the feeling, scale, and energy are aligned before the painting fully begins.
It is a quiet checkpoint, a chance to refine rather than rethink.
If anything still needs adjusting, we do it here so the painting itself can unfold with confidence and flow.
