Self Portrait - medium scale

'Self Portrait' is a reflective piece capturing the companionship of a pet, my cat at 18 years old has shared over half of my life. This piece captures the love of growing up together.

She looks straight at the viewer as I daydream, just as our pets can sense things before we do. 

I believe cats to be auspicious and a symbol that returns to many pieces of my work, often in secret or hidden! I believe they add hidden luck to those who invest in my paintings. 

Whilst painting I used three different colours for the background before deciding on this luxurious, comforting maroon. I took inspiration from formative artists and wanted the feeling of the painting to evoke a sense of history. I see this piece ina  reading room, a place of pause and perhaps low-lit atmosphere.
