'Shall We Rest' is a painting created in a truly special place in North Wales, the Penmaenuchaf Hotel overlooking the estuary and Idris mountains of Snowdonia.

This inviting scene highlights the incredible colours that reveal themselves as the sun sets, the two empty chairs welcome you to pause, rest and reflect.

As I painted I wanted to explore the colours, textures and feeling of pause I got from the garden. A theme I return to often, this very special piece is made for a room that needs a view. 
My aim was to create a snapshot that feels like an invitation, one to pause and reflect. One of my favourite details is the accuracy of the clouds, how realistic they look as the bounce the fading light upwards to the top of the painting, like it extends out of the canvas itself lighting up the ceiling.
And yet the chairs are so minimalist in style, a line drawing, like they're waiting for someone to fill them and continuing telling a story.
