'The Lion to My Lamb' is a portrait of my nephew in costume.

When we play his characters and imagination revolve around fighting, strength, and conquering. Yet in his lion costume here I was reminded that even with his veracious spirit, there is a quieter, softer sense of self.

By 'drawing' the costume and leaving it outlined I hoped to capture the idea that he creates his own armour. He is fully fleshed as is, and the costumes he tries on are simply creative endeavours to find what suits and what may not. Sketches rather than the final piece. 

I feel it's not for me as an adult to prescript what or who he is meant to become, but instead this painting serves as a reminder, and of inspiration to keep becoming. Continue to create throughout life with childlike curiosity.
